Role overview

Mybitstore is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Backend Engineer to develop, maintain and optimise the backend systems that power its cryptocurrency trading platform.

The successful candidate will use Python, Django and Django REST Framework to design and develop reliable backend applications and RESTful APIs. The role will also involve database management, third-party API integrations and the development of secure, scalable backend services.

Working within a hybrid environment, the Backend Engineer will collaborate with relevant technical teams to ensure efficient system performance, seamless application integrations and reliable data management.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, practical software development experience and a genuine interest in blockchain technology and financial innovation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Backend application development

• Design, develop and maintain robust backend applications using Python and Django.
• Build and manage application features using Django REST Framework.
• Develop scalable backend solutions that support the company’s cryptocurrency trading platform.
• Write clean, efficient, reusable and maintainable code.
• Review and improve existing backend applications to enhance performance and reliability.
• Identify and resolve technical issues affecting application functionality.
• Support the continuous improvement of backend systems and services.

2. API development and management

• Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework.
• Ensure seamless communication between frontend applications, databases and backend services.
• Implement efficient API structures to support application functionality.
• Test and maintain APIs to ensure reliability, accuracy and consistent performance.
• Integrate internal systems with external platforms and third-party services.
• Troubleshoot API-related issues and implement appropriate technical solutions.

3. Database management and optimisation

• Design, develop and maintain relational database structures.
• Work with PostgreSQL or MySQL to support application data management.
• Write and optimise database queries to improve application performance.
• Manage database indexes, migrations and related development processes.
• Identify and resolve database performance issues.
• Maintain efficient data storage and retrieval processes.
• Support database optimisation to ensure backend systems remain reliable and scalable.

4. Third-party integrations and system development

• Integrate external APIs and third-party services into the company’s backend applications.
• Develop and maintain reliable connections between internal systems and external platforms.
• Troubleshoot integration challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Ensure smooth data exchange between connected applications and services.
• Support the development of backend functionalities within the blockchain and fintech environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve system integration and overall application efficiency.

5. System performance and reliability

• Monitor backend application performance and identify areas requiring improvement.
• Optimise backend processes to support efficient system operations.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues affecting application functionality.
• Implement appropriate development practices to improve system reliability.
• Maintain and improve existing backend services as the platform grows.
• Contribute to the development of secure and scalable backend infrastructure.

Qualifications and educational requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in backend application development.
• Strong practical experience with Python and Django.
• Proficiency in Django REST Framework.
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of relational database management systems, particularly PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience in database design, SQL queries, indexing, migrations and optimisation.
• Practical experience integrating third-party APIs and external services.
• Knowledge and experience in blockchain technology and financial technology (fintech).

Technical skills and competencies

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Proficiency in Django and Django REST Framework.
• Excellent understanding of RESTful API architecture and development.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL databases.
